Spidey Has an Avenue A Birthday Party But Eden Couldn't Keep Her feet on the Ground ...
Saturday night Spidey came to Avenue A with his rickshaw to climb the walls and charm the babes . Spidey worked the block for a while hauling folks , mostly females of course , around while doing all his special acrobatic routines . But tonight was a special night for Spidey . Saturday was Spidey's birthday . A celebration was in order and Ray's Candy Store was a good place to start .
Eden was out on the street . She had just performed with her band in Jersey and was looking for a little fun . She saw Spidey and his rickshaw hauling folks around and she asked him if she could run with the rickshaw too. Spidey's answer was "of course " .
Eden ran down the sidewalk pulling the rickshaw but just couldn't keep her feet on the ground . Well , probably better to just go drink and have some fun at Lucy's .Next stop Lucy's!
Spidey chains his rickshaw and all repair to the bar at Lucy's venerable avenue A drinking establishment . Spidey selects some tunes , drinks are poured and sipped . Spidey lets down his hair and in earnest his birthday party begins .

Spidey Gets His Rickshaw Back ...
Spidey has his rickshaw in hand again . He had stepped into Lucy's on avenue a for a brief few minutes . He left his rickshaw unattended and unsecured . Thieves saw their opportunity and took Spidey's rickshaw for a run .
Spidey rode around the neighborhood in a cab for a while looking for his rickshaw . Then later while riding the hood on a borrowed bicycle he received a phone call from someone that had spotted the rickshaw . The rickshaw had been abandoned by the thieves and left sitting 2 blocks from Lucy's at 11th street and avenue A .

This Week End at Ray's Candy Store and Lucy's Bar ...
It was cold in the East Village this week end . With the door opening and closing frequently it was also cold inside Ray's Candy Store .
There were many friend's that visited Ray this week end , especially on Saturday . The neighborhood's more troublesome souls were there annoying Ray's customers too . There was some silliness . Ray was in better spirits than he has been in several days but neither Friday nor Saturday night produced much profit .
Ray was not able to meet with his landlord . He will continue to try to do so . Seventy six year old Ray hopes to be able to make a deal to continue at his candy store at least until he can secure his Social Security income and retire . All is still unresolved .
We visited Lucy at her bar on avenue A late Saturday night . Lucy was sitting at a table near the front door resting . Her leg hurt and her grand daughter who was tending the bar could easily handle the small crowd by herself so we sat and talked .
Over a beer and a shot and 2 very generous by-backs we talked about her business , the vacancies on avenue A and Ray's problems .Lucy's business is less profitable than it was last year at this time . This is also as it is for Ray and most of the other businesses on avenue A .She said that the week end crowds are smaller this year . She also noted that she was having serious problems with drug dealers that are attempting to sell not just outside her bar but inside as well .

L.E.S. Jewels Discovers Water
Today in a very mellow , hipsteresque Tompkins Square Park , a calm , intelligible L.E.S. Jewels told us that the other day when Cochise found him barfing his guts out over a Tompkins Square Park toilet bowl ( most of the vomit he claims missed and embelished the already stained , foul smelling wall and floor) he chided Jewels to slow it down . Cochise said "Man ,I pace myself so I don't get sick " . On this day in the T.S.P. mens room Jewels decided to heed the advice of Cochise , claiming forcefully"Cochise knows his shit".
Jewels intends to slow it down but he also knows that he will have to contend with the shakes during this taper down process . He reasons that it might be best if he didn't drink vodka in the daytime . For the taper down he intends to swill "Earth Quake High Gravity Lager" as his daily dose to get him straight .He also decided that for the first time in 20 years he would try drinking some water . He said that the first 2 glasses of the strange , tasteless fluid made him puke but he got used to it .He says the plan is working and truly he did seem sort of sober , we could understand him and he wasn't bobin' and weavin' much. For now he says that he'll have a little vodka in the evenings to ease him through the night .
Jewels also confirmed this afternoon that he has asked Sid "the Nazi" to perform another marriage ceremony in the rites of Odin( see the "Wedding of Amy and Jewels" here on this blog) .This time the ceremony will be for Jewels and his new girlfriend Lucy ... when she gets out of detox .
Jewels says he got an $1100 check recently (from the tax payers?) and this money and Lucy's wealth will get them an apartment . There he'll be able to get staight , clean-up and prepare to get a job . Jewels says that he has a food handling permit . He wants to get a job preparing food .We said nothing about the open sores and hep C.

Now at Nino's on Saturday night after having had half-a-dozen "boiler makers" at Lucy's , when you really need a couple of slices and want to eat them looking out a window while watching all the other drunks pass-by it will be much more complicated . Now you will have to share that counter-space with a computer terminal . You'll have to be careful about where you sit , where you place your hot greasy slices and what you touch so as not to stain or gum-up that key-board ... as well as be sure not to sneeze or spit a gob of something organic on that monitor .

Lucy's Bar on Avenue A is Open ...
Lucy opened for business again on Friday . She always closes her bar when she takes one of her frequent trips to Poland . In Poland she spent most of her time with relatives in a part of the world where the days pass a bit more slowly and the snow falls whiter and softer .
