The Sunday Night Floor Show at Ray's Candy Store ...

Sunday night a man with a Mohawk walked into Ray's Candy Store , several bags in hand , and sat down on the floor blocking any traffic in or out of the store . He sat there talking to himself , mostly incoherently , though several times he did utter something to the effect that he had been mugged . He did have a slight cut above one eye . He didn't move , he just sat , angrily mumbled and opened his bags .
With all his bags open he dug into each bag and pulled out this and that of what was his strewing these possessions about on Ray's floor . He continued to mutter and mumble . Some of his angry ,growling chatter was clearly threatening .
Ray asked the man to leave several times . Then as Ray often does when his store is occupied by troublesome undesirables , Ray told this man that he had to sweep and mop the floor and to do so required that the store be closed .
The man with the Mohawk was not ready to leave and in response to Ray he struck Ray's broom knocking it out of Ray's hands. Ray then tried pouring water on the floor near the man . This angered the man with the Mohawk , he rose to his feet and pushed back at Ray . Somehow Ray got the now growling angry man out the front door .
Several folks now dialed 911 for the police . We stepped into the fray as the man with the Mohawk hit ray and then ran away . We and others including Ray followed . An unsuccessful attempt to keep the man with the Mohawk from leaving the area was made . Ray confronted him , yelled at him and then went back to his unattended store .
The man with the Mohawk sat down for a while and said "bring the cops , I was mugged and the old man poured water on me " . Later he walked away , bags in hand , travelling west on 7th street .
Somehow the calls to police were not properly recorded . The radio call for an assault was never made and police did not come to the scene . We did flag down a police car later and these officers talked to Ray and others and then went looking for the man with a Mohawk .

Bloomberg ...

Whether its the policies imposed by his regulators , taxmen and inspectors or the presence of his arrogant imprimatur on a paper plate , Bloomberg's presence is felt . As with so many small businesses Bloomberg reigns with a heavy destructive hand at Ray's little Candy Store .

Confrontational Moments at Odessa Bar Wednesday Night ...

L.E.S. Jewels and Choice had some run-ins with the police Wednesday Night on Avenue A . The boys had a few beers and malt liquor brews including a new Sparks-like drink and were over the top creating some edgy confrontations in and around Odessa Bar .Of course the bartenders called the cops . Irritated 9th precinct officers showed up at the scene , argued with the boys and then told them to take a walk . Of course Choice and Jewels always came back later ... and so did the cops .At least 3 times .

Eden and John's East River String Band at TenEleven Bar on avenue C Saturday Night ...

No leg breaking with this performance , just a very musical performance with diverse content.

The Stza Breaks a Leg at TenEleven Bar Saturday Night

After the big art party at Csqwat Saturday night the party crowd headed to TenEleven Bar on avenue C for some drinks and fun .
http://slumgoddess.blogspot.com/
The drinks poured and the tops popped , the music with Morgan O'kane , Eden and John's East River String band and the Stza began .
The Stza , of Leftover Crack and Star Fucking Hipsters , swilled some "iced tea" from a clear plastic 1 liter bottle and strummed a chord or two to begin a 2 hour or so signature performance .
It wasn't enough though to just sing on stage in the lights about dead cops before an approving audience . The Stza (a.k.a. Sturgeon) headed to the seating area , climbed a table , stood on its top side , played and sang . While continuing to perform the Stza took a step to the next table . That table's single leg's base broke , the table went down with the Stza , chairs tumbled , folks shrieked and scattered and drinks and beers , mostly cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon , flew in all directions .
Doesn't seem that any one , including the Stza , was hurt . He just walked back to the stage , as folks cleaned up the mess , continuing to strum a couple of chords singing .The Stza strummed some chords and sang for some time , at times accompanied by a jew's harp , on into the night . According to a friend the Stza tried to climb another table later in the evening but was prevented by the management from doing so .

Another Sweet Treat Shop in the Old Wolinin Funeral Home Space ...

Once upon a time there were enough folks dying in the neighborhood to support two funeral homes on 7th street .Neighborhoods change though , folks were dying in smaller numbers , so several years ago one of those homes ,Wolinin , closed . Thanks to the fact that there are still enough folks dying in the neighborhood the other funeral home , Jarema, is still in business .
Now on 7th street the Wolinin space that was used to display the dead and sell caskets is used by Butter Lane to display and sell cup cakes and soon Xoom will also use a portion of the Wolinin space to display and sell smoothies and infusionals .

Fire in Basement Apartment at 417 E. 9th Street ...

Around 4 PM Thursday afternoon a fire broke out in an apartment in the rear of the basement at 417 E. 9th street .One male was injured in the fire and was taken to hospital . It was reported that the male had regained consciousness on the way to the hospital .We have no additional information concerning the injured male's condition .
This apartment was one of two apartments in this basement that were located behind the space once occupied by Cafe Gigi . The building was not evacuated and damage was limited to the interior of the basement apartment .On examination later in the evening it could be seen that the fire damage was limited to a small room containing a bed and some furniture .This bed and other furnishings were seen to be significantly charred . There was some question among officials at the scene concerning whether the basement apartment was a legal residence and whether it had adequate means of egress.
